Blue Ox Tow Bar Baseplate Types

BLUE OX baseplates are custom made to fit specific vehicles to use existing attachment points and accomodate specific exterior features of the vehicle. Blue Ox manufactures baseplates that have three types of tabs: Removable, Standard and Duncan. Most late model vehicles for which Blue Ox manufactures baseplates have the Removable type of tabs. The main advantage of the removable tab type is that when your vehicle is not in tow you can easily remove the tabs.

Removable style baseplate tabs Standard style baseplate tabs Duncan style baseplate tabs
Blue Ox Removable Tabs
The visible portion of the baseplate (the "front arms") can be easily removed when not towing - remove two hitch pins to convert from towed car to road car in seconds!
Blue Ox Standard Tabs
The visible portion of the baseplate (the "front arms") are part of the entire baseplate body and cannot be removed individually.
Duncan Bracket Types
The baseplate tabs are actually mounted directly to the front bumper of your vehicle. Mostly used for older model Jeeps.

Choosing Blue Ox is like having a baseplate custom-made for your vehicle. Blue Ox baseplates are easy on your suspension and even easier on the eye. Designed with hidden reinforcement. Blue Ox doesn't offer a one-size-fits-all support system, but rather a system that is shock absorbing and integrated into the individual bumper frame or unibody with the bumper design of your vehicle. The Blue Ox philosophy is to let the baseplate torsion, or flex, similar to receiver hitches allowing the baseplate to absorb the forces of towing rather than rigidly transferring the forces to the frame of the vehicle. It truly is just like having a baseplate custom-made - only faster.

Competitive models have an exposed cross support beam that protrudes from the bumper. That method increases the weight you’re carrying, takes longer to hook up and also exposes the baseplate to potential damage from curbs. Blue Ox baseplates don’t detract from your vehicle’s appearance. No other tow bar manufacturer offers as many connections to as many different vehicles as Blue Ox.

The exclusive Blue Ox manufacturing techniques ensure unparalleled strength and durability, so whether you are driving a new Jeep® or a 1972 Ford® pickup, you’ll find the right connections with Blue Ox.

For secure, stable towing without the "tow car" look, choose Blue Ox baseplates.

  • Bolts securely to the chassis
